I then turned file sharing back on via the other terminal command and attempted to connect to the machine via the Network folder in the Finder. I turned off file sharing via the terminal command I mentioned above, and then I deleted the custom icons on both of the shared Time Machine volumes that had them (others have custom icons, but 1) they’re not explicitly shared via the Sharing interface in Settings (I can see them because I’m logging in to the machine as the admin) and 2) they’re not Time Machine volumes, so I haven’t bothered messing with them yet). – I then found the comment above that mentioned the custom drive icons and decided to try it. – I tried another solution I found elsewhere, which was the terminal command “sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/” and then “sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/”, but that didn’t work. – I got it to work briefly by following some instructions yesterday that suggested turning it off, rebooting, and then turning it on again, but today it was back to hanging when I tried to connect to the machine. I have some partitions shared as Time Machine network drives, and ever since upgrading to Ventura (straight from Monterey to 13.2), file sharing hasn’t been working. I’m grateful to mikey for the links to Apple’s articles about Advanced Data Protection and Security Keys. I will write in more detail about it later this week. This is unusual in that it only affects Apple silicon Macs, but hasn’t been resolved in 13.2. There’s currently only one significant bug in Ventura that I’m actively tracking, which appears to be in WindowServer or one of the related subsystems used in Stage Manager. There’s speculation as to whether 13.2 introduces Rapid Security Responses, although Apple does state that MDM has now been updated to handle them.
