Now, the devs consider the Coven effectively one character, but that’s… just not how it works. I’m not counting the secret endings with Z’Gord and Calculester because they were upgraded to Romanceables. Issue 3 - Prom EndingsĪs most of you know, Monster Prom has several secret endings where you can take NPCs to the Prom instead of the main 8 ROs. But then, why haven’t any of the male NPCs been as popular as the female ones? Now, I imagine the excuse for this is player reception and popularity - the audience really loved these characters, so they’re being upgraded or returning. We have Zoe, a Romance Option, and Dahlia, an NPC then we have Damien and Calculester, both Romance Options. The issue is similar in Monster Prom: Reverse. But you see the problem? Instead of upgrading at least one male NPC to RO, they had to make an entirely new character with Milo to fill the empty slot!Īll the female ROs are NPCs that have been upgraded, but the two males are ones we’ve already gotten. I’m not counting Milo because, as far as has been revealed, they’re nonbinary and don’t use male pronouns. We have Damien, a returning Romance Option we have Calculester, a returning Romance Option. We have Dahlia, an NPC upgraded to Romance Option we have Joy, an NPC upgraded to Romance Option we have Aaravi/The Slayer, an NPC upgraded to Romance Option. For Monster Prom’s first sequel, Monster Camp, we have 6 romance options. As far as I’ve found, these are the only dakimakuras being sold, so even in merchandise the girls outnumber the guys (and their choices of character feels, as I’ll mention at the end of this post, kinda hetero-typical/straight-pandering, if that’s the right word? Slutty girl, cutesy-but-naughty girl, average twunk bad boy). As you can see, we have the fun-loving, slutty girl Polly the cute, waifu-ish girl Zoe and fan-favorite average twunk Damien. Then there’s merchandise, like these body pillows.

It’s a dumb thing to nitpick about, but coupled with everything else, it really stacks up - we don’t even get Oz’s sign, but we get Amira’s and Vicky’s? Here, we have 6 guys’ Zodiac signs, and 9 girls’. Then we have stuff outside of the game, like the Zodiac charts and even merchandise: Also to be fair, they reversed this in Second Term, putting both of Zoe’s arms down and raising one of Calculester’s arms:īut still, the original 3 guys, which makes up a majority of the male romance options, all have the same static, boring pose. But the girls’ sprites still look more interesting to me. To be fair, there’s a pattern - all the girls have one arm up, all the boys have both arms down.

They all have both arms down at their hips, which just creates the same silhouette. They’re all interesting, dynamic, all that jazz. Let’s look at the sprites of the female romance options: To start this list off with the small stuff, the character sprites themselves.

And since the game takes feedback from its players, I very sincerely hope the devs see this post and work to improve how it handles its guys - because that’s the point of this post, not to trash the game and say it’s awful, but to let its creators know there’s an issue they should work to Issue 1 - Sprites, Merch, Etc. But it has a very blatant problem regarding how it creates and treats male characters vs female characters.

I really enjoy Monster Prom, it’s got good characters, good plots, and it’s overall just fun.
